Who Will Know?
Confidential means that the health center won't tell your parents or anyone else without your permission. Sometimes problems with confidentiality happen when insurance is used. If you usually use your parents' insurance and it is important for you to keep the visit to the health center confidential, ask the health center about programs available to you.

Anonymous testing, which doesn't use your name at all, is available for HIV tests.

Although New Yorkers less than 18 years of age have a right to these services without anyone else being involved, it can be helpful to talk to a trusted family member or other adult before you go.

Getting Services in New York State

What sexual health services can I get in New York State if I'm under 18?

You might want to consider talking with your parents or an adult you trust about getting health services, but in New York State you can get the following health services without the permission or knowledge of parents, guardians, or anyone else: Getting Services in New York State In New York State, free or low-cost confidential health services are available at many health department clinics, community health centers and family planning program sites.

Pregnancy Services in New York State

If you become pregnant, you have the right to decide what is best for you: continue the pregnancy and keep the baby or choose adoption; or end the pregnancy with an abortion. Visit a family planning program site in New York State for counseling about your pregnancy options.

Help and Support After Rape or Sexual Assault

If you are or have been a victim of domestic violence, rape or sexual assault you are not alone. There are resources for help and support:
